LIVERMORE – A large cattle ranch, totaling nearly 51,000 acres, is for sale in the Bay Area.
“The iconic N3 Cattle Company is on the market for the first time in 85 years,” according to a new brochure released by the ranch’s listing agent, California Outdoor Properties, based in Vacaville. The list represents “the largest land supply” in California, according to the brochure.
The asking price? $ 72 million. But that doesn’t seem to have driven off potential new owners.
“We are getting tons of interest from potential buyers,” said Todd Renfrew, broker and principal owner of California Outdoor Properties, based in Vacaville. “A lot of them want to buy sections of the ranch.”
A series of piecemeal sales is not the preferred outcome for the main ranch owners, members of the Vickers / Naftzger family, who have owned and operated the property for 85 years.
“The family wants to sell it in full and keep it together,” Renfrew said.
At 50,500 acres, the ranch spans four counties: Alameda, Santa Clara, San Joaquin and Stanislaus, and lies south of Livermore and east of San Jose and Oakland.
The property is for sale after the current primary owners, two sisters who live in Southern California, decide to vacate it, according to Renfrew.
“The sisters decided it was just time to sell,” Renfrew said.
The breeders hope that the next owner will not try to develop the virgin land.
“The buyer should be a wealthy person who is interested in preserving the past,” Renfrew said.
Steep canyons, rolling oak forests, meadows, shrub-covered canyons, rock outcrops, meadows, ponds and watersheds are some of the features of the ranch.
“Some conservation groups have expressed interest in buying,” Renfrew said.
The fauna of the property consists of animals that can be found in the wilderness of northern California.
Coyotes, bobcats, gray foxes and pumas, as well as deer, elk, wild pigs, turkeys, quails, doves, rabbits, ground squirrels and raccoons can be found in the area. ‘huge ranch, as well as a range of birds. A pair of bald eagles nestled near the ranch headquarters near Livermore.
“The best approach would be to take a conservation stance to ensure the property is not developed,” Renfrew said.
The ranch family members have approached California Outdoor Properties, which was chosen as the listing agent after a meeting in San Francisco in recent weeks.
“I didn’t know there were such big ranches in the Bay Area,” Renfrew said.
N3 Cattle Co. is still a working cattle ranch and about 350 head of cattle were on the property as of Tuesday.
Another ranch, the 787-acre Wool Ranch near Milpitas, went on sale for $ 14.9 million in September.
The size of the N3 Cattle Co. ranch overshadows the previous significant sales managed by Renfrew. In California, the Renfrew company organized the sale of a 19,000-acre ranch in Lassen County and a 14,000-acre ranch west of Interstate 5 near the town of Williams in the Colusa County.
“It’s very exciting,” Renfrew said of the attempted sale of the N3 cattle ranch.
