EMPLOYEES at Kavango Cattle Ranch in the Kavango West region have accused the management of the Namibian Industrialization Agency (Nida) of destroying the ranch.

They say the condition of the cattle at the ranch has deteriorated dramatically due to neglect.

Employees say that since Nida took over the ranch, they’ve seen the farm go from bad to worse.

They say that in January 2015, the ranch had a total of 16,312 head of cattle, of which only 10,000 remain today.

It comes after Finance Minister Iipumbu Shiimi paid a visit to the cattle ranch on Friday to familiarize himself with the farm and assess its condition.

He was accompanied by members of the Kavango West Regional Council, Kavango West Governor Sirkka Ausiku and Nida senior management.

The visit followed allegations of livestock that had died of neglect.

Employees have denied allegations of cattle rustling at the ranch.

They say the animals are stolen because of damaged infrastructure, such as the fence, which was damaged by the elephants.

“It’s not just a farm, it’s our home. We were born and raised on this farm. We have nowhere else to go.

“In this economy, for a person working in a risky area, earning N$3,000 a month is not good at all. We need a pay rise,” says Kadinga Galius, union steward at the farm .

Galius says elephants roam around the farm in search of water, posing a risk to workers.

One employee in 2020 died after an elephant attack, he says.

It was built by a tycoon who wanted to staff his business

The college was founded by an electricity magnate and philanthropist LL Nunn. He realized the importance of using electricity for mining and started a business that required him to build and take over power plants all over the United States, Canada and Mexico. This is a two year program

Deep Springs College is a unique institution of higher learning. Its educational program is based on three pillars: academics, student autonomy and manual labor. Each student receives a full scholarship; the college covers tuition, room and board for each student offered.

Many outstanding colleges have begun to adopt the “microcollege“model – any form of concentrated post-secondary education – pioneered by Deep Springs College, as Tideline Institute and outer coast. “Freedom is the greatest opportunity I’ve had in my years in the real estate business,” Jerman said.

Today, Sun Terra will file an application with Osceola County to amend the overall plan, changing the future land use from agriculture/conservation to low-density residential for what would be one of the most Florida’s largest active adult communities, second only to The Villages.

“We spent a lot of time developing the master plan, amenities and future lifestyle,” Jerman said. “We are beginning the lengthy eligibility process, which we hope to complete in 24 months.”

Jerman turned to longtime collaborators and planners to Rj Whidden & Associates to create the concept plan with 15 distinct neighborhoods, all with shopping malls, golf courses and waterways. The Sun Terra team also includes Denver principal Marlowe and regional partner James Dunn.

The Rohde Ranch spans 22 square miles on State Route 60 in southern Osceola County across from the Preserving DeLuca. It was part of the doomed Destiny project, a proposed town in the heart of the Kissimmee River Valley that collapsed amid a series of lawsuits, criminal convictions and economic recession.

Unlike Sun Terra’s other projects, this one sits outside the Osceola County urban service area, which means obtaining permits will be a difficult climb.
